Opening Night soloist Evgeny Kissin counts Chopin among his favorite composers

On October 1, 2009, Carnegie Hall opens its 2009–2010 season. Included on the program is Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F Minor with pianist Evgeny Kissin—a prelude to the 200th anniversary of the composer’s birth in 2010.

Daniele Gatti replaces James Levine for Opening Night gala performance

Daniele Gatti will lead the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall’s Opening Night performance on October 1. James Levine, who was originally scheduled to conduct this concert, withdrew due to the need for immediate surgery for a herniated spinal disc.

Opening Night features NY premiere of John Williams’s On Willows and Birches

On October 1 at 7 PM Carnegie Hall opens its 2009–2010 season. On the program, the Boston Symphony Orchestra performs the New York premiere of John Williams's On Willows and Birches, for harp and orchestra, with former BSO principal harpist Ann Hobson Pilot as the featured soloist. Mr. Williams has written this piece to honor Ms. Pilot, who has retired after a 40-year career with the orchestra.
